Silent Hill fans are understandably on-edge given the wave of recent Silent Hill reboot rumors. The rumors point to a new game being developed by Sony’s Gravity rush team, with an announcement soon, so when Konami, the owner of Silent Hill’s license, posted a cryptic tweet featuring the haunting siren sound from Silent Hill 2, fans’ eyes grew wide.

Those hopes were dashed when Konami almost immediately added that it had just been watching Dead by Daylight, which features Pyramid Head as a playable Killer. “We won’t take the tweet down and ‘backpedal’, we just want you to enjoy it,” is how Konami finished the tweet, setting off some very frustrated comments from fans.

Silent Hill fans thought that would be it for the exchange. Konami had corrected itself and that was supposed to be it. However, instead of letting things lie Konami added something else. “We are sorry we got people fired up,” started another Konami tweet. “Anything official would come from first from [sic] @SilentHill or an event or something, not from us.” And with those last thoughts, an entirely new wave of speculation and rumors were wrought.

For one, the Silent Hill Twitter account that Konami linked was new, as in it has only been in use for less than a month, though it was active during that time. Still, it had very few followers. It still has very few followers, meaning very few knew about its existence at all. Second, it’s odd that Konami would mention a new Silent Hill being announced at an event. That’s because the current rumor is that Silent Hill could be announced at a PS5 event as soon as next week.

There’s no material rumors or announcements in Konami’s tweets, of course. They’re just very curious and also curiously timed. Perhaps Konami knows a Silent Hill announcement is coming. Perhaps it knows there isn’t, but it’s taking advantage of all the rumors anyway. Or perhaps Konami’s social media is somewhat oblivious — Silent Hill fans will likely find out soon.
